Golf has never been more popular

The popularity of the game of golf has grown tremendously over the last six years. More amateur cards have been issued in this period than in the preceding 20 years together. Advertising revenue made on PGA Broadcasts have quadroupled in the last five years.

Many will say it is because of the rise of the games first non-causasion hero, Tiger Woods, who has dominated the game for the last six years. This may be true, never before has one player gone unrivalled for such a long time. Even in the days of the great Jack Niclaus, he had stiff competition from the likes of Arnold Palmer and Gary Player. Nick Faldo had Greg Norman and David Duvall to keep him at bay and so legands were always paired. Cable did make it easier too. The game was now more accessable for more hours of a tournament.

My personal opinion: The game became more accesable. More golf courses were build in last couple of years than the preceding 30. It became popular to build your house next to a golf course and developers started developing golf estates (communities). It became financially viable to build a course, since the income from the sale of the stands would pay for the development of the course and any income generated thereafter, would only have to pay for the operational costs of the club.

Whatever it is, the game is popular and I am a proud supporter of the game. I love to see my heros on the TV and often enjoy the game with my best friends. The game is still the best opportunity to meet influential people and make valuable contacts. This is where your wealth starts.
